A program that encourages adults to read more starts next weekend at county libraries.

The Winter Reads program runs Jan. 2-Feb. 3 and encourages adults to log books they've read to earn books and enter a contest for prizes.

The program mirrors the libraries' annual summer reading program for children.

Adults who want to take part in the program can pick up a reading log at their branch library. As they read books or listen to them on tape, they can enter them into the log.

When they've read five books, they can drop off the log at the library and enter a drawing that will allow one person at each branch each week to choose a used book to keep. Their names also will be entered into a drawing for a dinner certificate.
