Ami Jacobson, daughter of Ahava and Beryl Jacobson, is the December 2009 Ashland Kiwanis Student of the Month.

A senior student from Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year. Each student of the month receives an award certificate and a $50 savings bond. In May, two of the nine monthly winners for the school year will be further honored with a $1,000 college scholarship.

Jacobson has achieved honor-roll status all four years at AHS. She has also received awards for outstanding Spanish student, culinary arts, sportsmanship for tennis and soccer and congressional leadership. She is maintaining a 3.6 cumulative grade-point average.

In addition to school work, she has been involved in the following activities: city of Ashland School Board representative, National Honor Society, sophomore class president, junior student government secretary, senior leader in action of student government, president of Global Citizen Corps, math honor society, speech and debate, Model U.N., Brain Bowl, Knit Wits, Peer Jury, tenor saxophone player and varsity golf, swimming and water polo.

In addition to a full academic schedule and the numerous school activities, she has found time to volunteer for a soup kitchen, the Hillary Clinton campaign, Ashland Community Hospital, teaching Hebrew, Middle East Peace Camp and the Roots and Shoots Foundation.

Jacobson has sent applications to 10 colleges and universities. She would like to attend George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She plans to major in business and minor in agriculture.
