Max Bloch-Kiss, son of Lee Bloch and Frank Kiss, has been recognized as January 2010 Student of the Month by the Kiwanis Club of Ashland.

Max Bloch-Kiss, son of Lee Bloch and Frank Kiss, has been recognized as January 2010 Student of the Month by the Kiwanis Club of Ashland.

A senior student from Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year. Each student of the month receives an award certificate and a $50 savings bond. In May, two of the nine monthly winners for the school year will be further honored with a $1,000 college scholarship.

Bloch-Kiss has maintained a 3.84 grade-point average. He is taking advanced placement calculus and advanced physics, and has been highly involved in theater management all four years at AHS. He has been in the Drama Club and International Thespian Society all four years. He was secretary/treasurer of the Drama Club in 2008 and 2009. He has also been in the Mu Alpha Theta Honors Society for two years and the National Honor Society for three years.

He also has volunteered at the AHS Theatre for more than 850 hours, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for more than 120 hours, and Fresh Start for more than 130 hours.

He plans to attend Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and major in computer science and minor in software engineering.
