Mike McLane, Republican candidate for state representative in District 55, will meet the public from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, at Butte Creek Mill, 402 N. Royal Ave., Eagle Point.

McLane, 45, of Powell Butte, is running for the seat occupied by George Gilman, who will not seek re-election. Prineville Mayor Mike Wendel, 40, also is seeking the nomination.

House District 55 is the second-largest district in the state, stretching from the eastern edge of Medford to Prineville in the north and Lakeview in the south.

McLane and Wendel are the only two candidates in the race. As a result, the winner of the May 18 primary will be the de facto winner of the general election in November.

WinterSpring Center has organized a program for children and families experiencing the grief and loss associated with divorce and the breakup of a family.

The group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays for eight weeks beginning April 5. A support group for children ages 6 to 12 will provide a safe place for children to express complicated feelings of loss though art, play and games with the support of peers and compassionate adults.

A program for a parent or guardian of each child in the group meets separately on-site for peer support and education on the challenges divorcing families face and how to help children through this process.
