Prepare for Medford's Pear Blossom Festival with a coronation and a ballroom dancing competition tonight.

Eight Jackson County high school senior girls will compete to become queen of the 2010 Pear Blossom Festival and win $2,000 in scholarships.

Paired with the 20th Annual Senior Royalty Scholarship Pageant will be a ballroom dance competition featuring five couples from Kranenburgs Dance Steps Studio competing for $1,000 cash prizes donated by Jeff Palpant of Smith Barney. Dancers from Dance Arts Center also will perform an exhibition.

The pageant and performances are at 7 p.m. in the North Medford High School auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for students and free for children under 6.

And speaking of those younger than 6, the junior royalty coronation for 5-year-olds is at noon at the auditorium. The little cuties will present bouquets to the princesses at the evening pageant, too.
