Jett Bandy homered and scored twice, and freshman Kurt Heyer allowed two runs over six innings to back Arizona's 9-3 victory over Oregon in the Pac-10 Conference opener for both teams in Tucson, Arizona.

Meanwhile, in nonconference play, Oregon State routed Long Beach State, 16-4, in Corvallis.

Oregon (17-7) got a four-hit performance from Marcus Piazzisi and a strong relief effort from Zack Thornton, but the Wildcats' (19-4) fast start with six runs over the first two innings was too much for the visitors to overcome.

Oregon starter Tyler Anderson (4-2) didn't make it out of the second, allowing six runs — four earned — on seven hits and a pair of walks in 12/3 innings.

In Corvallis, the Beavers (16-4) put together a nine-run fifth inning in the series opener at Goss Stadium.

The nine runs in the fifth came after a rain delay in the top half of the inning that lasted 1:07. Leading 3-1 at the time of the delay, Oregon State wasted no time in adding to its lead. Former North Medford star Rob Folsom drove in two runs with a single up the middle, and Carter Bell doubled to right center, scoring Folsom.

Michael Miller drove in two with a double down the left-field line, and two batters later, Matt Boyd drove in two more with a single to center.

Danny Hayes and Adalberto Santos both scored on wild pitches during the inning and Stefen Romero drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Romero led the Beavers with three RBIs, driving in two with a home run in the seventh. He went 3-for-4.
