The Chetco River bar was opened to commercial vessels only this morning after rough seas closed that port and two others on the Oregon coast Monday evening.

The U.S. Coast Guard allowed commercial boats to cross the Chetco bar at the Port of Brookings-Harbor beginning about 8:15 a.m. today, Coast Guard officials said.

However, the closure remained in effect this morning for all recreational vessels out of the Chetco, which is the most-visited port for Rogue Valley boaters.

The Coast Guard was reporting 10- to 12-foot seas at the Chetco's entrance buoy, and 8-foot breaks throughout the bar this morning, according to the Coast Guard.

The bars at Depoe Bay and the Siuslaw River at Winchester Bar remained closed this morning because of hazardous conditions and their openings were still being evaluated.
