Republican candidates for two positions on Jackson County's Board of Commissioners face off in forums beginning this week.

One session is set from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the main meeting room at the Medford Branch Library, 205 S. Central Ave. Another is set Tuesday, April 20, in the same location.

The organizer, the county Republican Party, will pose questions on the environment, federal revenue from county lands, traffic planning and air quality, job and business creation, the county's economic future, water management, county land use, county services, the library system and state and federal financial assistance.

Each session will involve all the questions, but candidates vying for one seat will get five questions and the candidates vying for the other seat will get the other five, organizers said. At the second session, the questions will be reversed.

For Position 1, incumbent Jack Walker faces opposition from three Republican candidates: Rick Nagel, Morris (Bub) Saltekoff and Don Skundrick. For Position 3, a seat now held by Democrat Dave Gilmour, five Republicans are running: Court Boice, Doug Breidenthal, Kay Harrison, Craig Prewitt and John Rachor.
