A rural Gold Hill woman was upgraded to serious condition this morning in a Medford hospital, where she is recovering from injuries suffered when a fire Monday gutted her small trailer at an RV park, authorities said.

Karen Hoffman, 48, remains in the intensive-care unit at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford with what firefighters said were injuries from smoke inhalation during the 3:06 a.m. fire at the Cyprus Grove RV Park, 1679 Rogue River Highway.

Hoffman had been listed in critical condition until this morning, an RVMC spokesman said.

Hoffman was alone in the residence — a fifth-wheel trailer estimated at 18 feet long — when the fire broke out, firefighters said. She escaped and alerted the park manager of the blaze.

The trailer was destroyed, and firefighters Monday were unable to determine a cause, according to the Rogue River Rural Fire Department.
