Bear Camp Road, which serves as a shortcut between the Grants Pass area and the lower Rogue River community of Agness, is now open.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced today that snow has been plowed from a section of the backcountry route that makes it impassable in winter.

The route over paved logging roads through federal forests serves as a popular shuttle road for rafters who run the wild section of the Rogue River in summer.

However, it can be trouble in winter, because it is not plowed. Travelers unfamiliar with the area regularly get stranded and have to be rescued.
