RALEIGH, N.C. — Jason Allred birdied three of his final six holes to salvage his opening round in the Rex Hospital Open on the Nationwide Tour Thursday.

The Ashland native double-bogeyed the 11th hole on the TPC Wakefield Plantation course to climb to 4 over par on the par-71 layout. He birdied the 13th, 15th and 17th holes.

Allred, who got into the tournament in a Monday qualifier by shooting 61, is tied for 104th place.

He tees off in the final group at 11:05 a.m. PDT today, starting on the back nine.

Scott Brown went out in the morning and equaled the course record with a 9-under 62 to take a two-shot lead over Stephen Poole in the 11th stop on the tour.
