A forecast filled with cool, wet weather has opened up campsites around the state for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department reported.

A forecast filled with cool, wet weather has opened up campsites around the state for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department reported.

Reservations Northwest, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's campsite reservation center, may have scattered openings available because of cancellations. Bookings made by 5 p.m. Thursday can reserve sites for Saturday and through the rest of the weekend.

Another alternative is one of the more than 20 of state 54 park campgrounds that offer campsites on a first-come, first-served basis, park officials said.

Updated information on vacancies is available from the State Park Information Center by calling 1-800-551-6949 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A list of these parks is posted at http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/PARKS/reserve2.shtml.
