Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College are scheduled to lose about $1.1 million and $600,000 respectively in state budget cuts.

Margaret Bradford, RCC spokeswoman, said the losses are the equivalent of 300 classes or 10 furlough days.

"That's not necessarily what we are going to cut to address that shortfall, but that's the equivalent."

Bradford said the community college system still had to evaluate what to cut.

"We're going to ask people for ideas before we move forward," she said.

The Oregon University System, which includes SOU and six other campuses, will have to reduce its budget by $30.8 million. Each public university is required to submit a downsizing plan to the university system before the Higher Education Board meets June 4.
