WILSONVILLE — Grants Pass had to be patient about playing its Class 6A state softball quarterfinal-round game.

A rain out on Friday caused the contest to be moved back, but the extra day didn't hurt the Cavers' performance.

Senior pitcher Morgan Barnes tossed a two-hit shutout as No. 3 Grants Pass posted a 14-0 victory over unranked Canby on the turf field at Wilsonville High Saturday afternoon.

While the Boise State-bound Barnes (17-3) struck out 12, issued one walk and hit one batter, it was the Grants Pass offense that had a field day with 16 hits against two Cougar pitchers.

The Cavers (24-4) led 2-0 after three innings, then broke the game open with six runs in the third — all scoring after two were out. Ashley Bacon's two-run single and a two-RBI double by Tia Misfeldt highlighted the outburst.

Senior Tara Glover sparked the Caver attack with a 5-for-5, three-run and two-RBI effort. Grace Marsh and Bacon each added two hits, two RBIs and two runs and Bri Amaranthus chipped in two hits and scored twice.

Grants Pass will host McNary, a 7-1 quarterfinal winner over Aloha, in Tuesday's semifinals.
