Donald Nesbitt Lindsey



Donald Nesbitt Lindsey died June 8, 2010, at the age of 87 in Medford, Ore. He was born October 14, 1922, in Fort Smith, Ark, son of Thomas W. Lindsey and Elizabeth Gilmore Nesbitt.



Don was raised in Alberta, Canada were he developed a lifelong affection for music. Don served in the Royal Canadian Air Force maintaining Lancaster Bombers in England during World War II. After the war Don moved to Portland, Ore., to pursue opportunities available to him. It was in Portland that he met and married Hazel Hyman Ervin in June of 1949. Don and Hazel were married for 45 years prior to her death in 1996. Together they raised five children. Linda (Ronald) Dasher, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Roger Ervin, deceased, Steve (Linda) Lindsey, of Portland, Ore., Mignon (Robert) Skinner, of Medford, Ore., and Kevin (Shannon) Lindsey, of Lake Oswego, Ore. Don had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.



Don's vocation in Portland was as a designer and manufacturer of industrial stainless steel kitchens. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association for 60 years. In his retirement Don moved from Portland to Medford and returned to his music as an active member of the Southern Oregon Chapter of the Old Time Fiddlers Association.



A graveside memorial was held for the family on Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Siskiyou Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Chapter of the Old-time Fiddlers Association.
