Marjorie Emery, 87, of Jacksonville, Ore., died at Skylark Memory Care in Ashland on June 17, 2010.
Marjorie attended Brighton High School in Brighton, Massachusetts, graduating in 1941. She wed her childhood sweetheart, Robert Emery, May 1945, and they were happily married until his death in September 1982.
Marge is remembered by her family as a fun-loving woman who was devoted to her family and faithful to her Lord. Before her illness, she served in many capacities at Eastwood Baptist Church in Medford, including being on the deacon board. As hobbies, she enjoyed walking, reading, writing, bowling, and deep sea fishing. She also served as a companion to the elderly, visiting them in their homes, sometimes reading them entire books and always enjoying sweet fellowship with them. In her retirement she also volunteered with the SMART program, tutoring students at the local schools, and was a part of the hospice program. She was a wonderful cook and loved preparing meals for her family.
She is survived by two loving daughters, Nancy Burk, of Jacksonville, Ore., and Diane Ballard, of Gold Hill, Ore.; as well as by devoted granddaughters, Lisa Brooks and Melissa Olson; and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Cynthia Signorini and Judith Slaughter, both who live in the Portland area. A private family service was held on June 19, 2010.
