More discussion about a city water park proposed for the corner of Highland Drive and Barnett Road in Medford is due during a lunchtime meeting of Medford's City Council today.

The meeting begins at noon in the Medford Room at City Hall, 411 W. Eighth St. It's open to the public.

City staff are making a case for building the park at the site of a dog park near the edge of Bear Creek Park. Working with an architectural firm and holding community meetings, city officials have been debating the size of the park, type of features it would offer and how it would be funded.

There are seven proposals for the park, including everything from an eight-lane competition swimming pool to family beach areas, splash pads, a wave machine, tube and drop water slides, mat racers, smaller areas for swim lessons, large shade structures and parking for up to 500.

Some residents have criticized the idea. The city responded with a question-and-answer sheet about the project. It's available here: www.mailtribune.com/waterparkqanda.
