SPRINGFIELD — South Medford pitchers Nate Namanny and Sean Pearson each tossed complete-game one-hitters in leading the Medford Mustangs to a nonleague sweep of Springfield in American Legion AAA play Wednesday.

Namanny ran his record to 3-0 by holding back the Timbers for seven innings for a 12-0 victory. He struck out two and walked three, and the lone hit off the left-hander came in the bottom of the seventh when Cody Williams blooped a single just over the first baseman's head.

Namanny didn't pitch to more than four batters in any of the innings and was backed by errorless defense.

Seth Brown was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs and Garrett Tygerson 3-for-4 with one run and two RBIs to pace the Mustangs (14-2, 2-0 Area 4) in Game 1. Justin Bohn and Dan Katayama each were 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs as Medford scored six runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

Pearson helped secure a 13-2 triumph in five innings with his best outing of the season. The right-hander struck out five and walked four, and allowed a similar bloop single by Jake Straube with one on and none out in the bottom of the fifth.

After a strikeout and pop-up to the shortstop, Pearson missed his chance at a shutout when a potential game-ending grounder was misplayed by Katayama at second base to allow two unearned runs to score.

Katayama previously built up enough credit at the plate by going 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs in Game 2, while Brown and Kameron Kaufman each were 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Colin Sowers extended his hitting streak to 14 games by going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

The Mustangs return home to take on the Klamath Falls Falcons for a doubleheader Friday at Harry & David Field. The Area 4 action starts at 6 p.m.
