Customers at a Purple Parrot in the Medford Center grabbed a man and held him until police arrived after a cashier yelled that she was being robbed Thursday night.

Medford police arrested Robert Dale Glueck, 25, on a charge of first-degree robbery.

He was arraigned Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court on charges of first- and second-degree robbery and two counts of third-degree robbery. He remained lodged at the Jackson County Jail Friday evening on $500,000 bail.

A woman customer at the lottery outlet in the Medford Center called police at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday to report a robbery in progress, Medford police Lt. Bob Hansen said.

A man with a bandana covering the lower part of his face went into the business and approached the cashier. He threatened her with a knife and demanded money, police said.

The cashier yelled to the customers for help as the robber forced open the cash register and snatched some cash. Two men who were in the business grabbed the robber while another woman called police, Hansen said.

No one was injured during the scuffle, but Hansen warned that apprehending a suspect with a knife can be dangerous.

"We want people to stay safe and be good witnesses," he said.

Hansen said while police don't encourage people to take on a suspect on their own, it worked out well Thursday.

"They made this decision and it was nice because the suspect didn't get away," he said.
