Donna Merriman Smith



Donna Merriman Smith, formerly of Medford, Ore., and long time resident of Dallas, Ore., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the age of 67. Donna was born in Stibnite, Idaho, on May 15, 1943, to Frances L. and Robert Earl Merriman.



After graduating from Elma High School in Elma, Wash., in 1961, she joined the armed forces in 1962, and served in the WAC Battery at Fort Sill, Okla.



Donna was married to Warren R. Smith in 1963, in Fort Sill, Okla., and the couple moved to Medford, Ore., where Donna pursued a career as an LPN nurse and raised a family.



Donna later moved to Dallas, Ore., where she continued her education, career and passion of helping those in need.



Donna is remembered by her friends and family to have been a nature lover and an outdoors person who loved camping, horseback riding, and fly fishing in her earlier days. She was an activities director and nurse's aide for many years at various hospitals and rest homes and was always considered a valued advocate for the elderly and anyone in need. Donna had a true gift of music and played several stringed instruments, especially appreciated as hoe-down fiddle player who loved bluegrass and old-time fiddle favorites.



Donna is survived by children, Patrick Smith, Scott Smith, and Stacie Mackenzie, all of Medford, Ore.; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
