Robert Alvar Carter



Robert Alvar Carter, 73, a former Talent, Ore. resident, died on June 17, 2010, in Atlanta, Ga. He was born in Berkeley, Calif., on October 24, 1936, to Robert R. and Alicia Vaca Carter.



He graduated from Talent High School in 1954, received his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1958, and his law degree from Yale Law School in 1965. For many years, he was a professor at Rutgers University School of Law in New Jersey, and in recent years had retired to Atlanta, Ga.



His wife, Joan Washburn Carter, died in 1996. He is survived by a brother, William G. Carter, of Medford; sons Robert Carter of Lafayette, La., and Dr. Richard Carter, of Atlanta, Ga.; and seven grandchildren. He was the great-greatgrandson of early Ashland settlers Henry B. and Harriet H. Carter and of Talent pioneers John and Ann Welborn Beeson. A private service was held in New Jersey.
