Hazel O. Haverstock Rice



Hazel O Haverstock Rice, 92, formerly of Medford, died in Boise Idaho, June 6, 2010. She was born in Miller, South Dakota, April 19, 1918, only child of May and Bert Haverstock. Hazel grew up and graduated high school then married Bob Rice, of Huron, S.D., in 1936. They raised three children in Portland, Oregon.



Hazel divorced and moved to east Medford, close to her parents, May and E.I. Jupe Dahl, in the 1960s. Active in United Methodist Women, Daughters of the Nile (Bahari Babes), Hazel was also well known in square dance circles with her friend, dance partner, Fred Kannasto, Ashland. In 2009, she moved to Idaho to be near her family. Hazel was always caring and fun with a ready smile.



She is preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Carolyn Bernard; and survived by Fred Rice, Tari Rice, many grand kids. She was laid to rest beside her daughter and her mother in Hillcrest Memorial Park with a graveside service June 10, 2010. The family thanks the First United Methodist Church of Medford.
