Clifford Leroy (Cliff) Fowler



Clifford Leroy (Cliff) Fowler, age 72, of Talent, Ore., died on June 23, 2010, in Portland, Ore. Cliff was born on May 20, 1938, in Ashland, Ore., to Thomas Edgar and Ruth Esther (Fisher) Fowler.



He was the youngest of ten children and was raised in Ashland where he attended school, graduating from Ashland High School in 1956. After high school, he worked for a couple of years in the timber industry, and then joined the U.S. Air Force in April 1958. He served in the Air Force for nine years with overseas duty tours in Scotland, Pakistan and Japan. He also served duty assignments in Texas and Mississippi before his honorable discharge in April 1967.



Cliff attended Oregon Technical Institute (now Oregon Institute of Technology) in Klamath Falls, Ore. He met and married Patricia Jeanne (Whitney) Simpson in Reno, Nev., on Feb 22, 1969. They moved to Portland, Ore., in March 1969, where Cliff attended Western Business College in Portland, Ore. After college, he began a nearly thirty year career as a computer programmer analyst. During his computer career, he worked at Genuine Parts Co. accounting division, Fred Meyer, Inc. and Multnomah County, all in Portland, Ore.



He retired from Multnomah County on Dec. 31, 1996. After retirement, he remained in Portland until July 2000, when he returned to the Rogue Valley, living in Talent, Ore., until his death.



Survivors include daughter, Taunya Wilcox, of Mulino, Ore.; sons, Kamm and Chad Fowler, both of Portland, Ore.; stepsons, Paul and Todd Simpson, both of Tacoma, Wash.; stepdaughters, Cynthia Simpson, of Boulder City, Nev., and Penny Allen, of Gladstone, Ore.; brothers, Lowell, of Phoenix, Ore., Harold (Ben), of Jacksonville, Ore.; sisters, Luella Maxine, of Phoenix, Ore., Jane Marie Williams, of Albany, Ore., Esther Svaren, of Ashland, Ore., and Carol Heinzman, of Medford, Ore.; three grandchildren; several step-

grandchildren; and numerous beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.



In addition to his wife, Patricia, who preceded him in death on January 18, 1986, in Portland, Ore., Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Chet, Russell and Robert (Bob); and stepdaughter, Sally (Simpson) Abbott.



Arrangements are being handled by Autumn Funerals Cremation & Burial in Tigard, Ore. By request of the deceased, no services will be held.
