The Mavericks (11-10, 8-6 Area 4) won the opener, 14-7, at North Medford High.

In the decisive inning of Game 2, the Mavericks' Kevin Hoyt grounded into a double play to score a run, but A.J. Miller was signaled to keep running the base pads and was thrown as the Highlanders completed the rare play.

Miller was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Hayden Evans was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. A.J. Doolittle added a 2-for-4 effort for the Mavericks.

In the opener, Jared White had a double, triple and four RBIs to guide the Mavericks.

Hoyt went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Evans was 2-for-3 and scored three times.

Taylor Raff and Austin Zavala had two hits apiece for the Mavs and pitcher Blaine Howlitt recorded his first win of the season.

SOUTH MEDFORD 5-13, NORTH JACKSON 4-9 — Andrew Phillips hit the game-winning single in the first game and finished 5-for-7 on the day as the Colts swept North Jackson at Harry & David Field.

Weston Gibson had an inside-the-park home run and went 3-for-3 in the opener for North Jackson. Ryan Wellock, Cody Albertson, Pat Alexander and Phillips all had two hits for South in Game 1. Phillips' walk-off hit came in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Albertson was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, Phillips 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, Austin Reames 2-for-3 with two runs and Nick Mouyious 2-for-4 in the nightcap for the Colts (11-4, 8-4 Area 4).

Little League Baseball

CENTRAL POINT 11, GRANTS PASS NATIONALS 0 — At Central Point, Dylan Pearce struck out 10 and hit a solo home run as Central Point advanced to the semifinals in the 12U District 8 All-Stars tourmament at the Central Point Little League fields.

Cavin Gillespie drove in five runs with two doubles on a 4-for-4 performance.

Pearce was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs while teammate Ben Curry added a solo homer during a 3-for-3 effort for Central Point (2-0).

Pearce was 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, Curry hit a solo homer and the Central Point beat Rogue River, 15-0, in the district tournament on Sunday.
