2nd Lt. Jacob A. Johnson has received a bachelor's degree in wildlife resources from the University of Idaho. Upon graduation, on May 15, he received a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

Johnson's decorations include three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (two with combat meritorious device), one Combat Action Ribbon, one Presidential Unit Citation, two Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, one National Defense Service Medal, two Iraq Campaign Medals, one Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, one Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.

Johnson graduated from Crater High School in 2001, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and went to Marine Basic Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

From there, he attended Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton. Upon completing MCT, Johnson attended the engineer equipment operations program in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where he was promoted to private first class on July 1, 2002. Upon completion of engineer equipment operators school, Pfc. Johnson reported to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, and Camp Lejeune, N.C.

In 2003, while with 2 CEB, Johnson deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While in Iraq, he was promoted to lance corporal on March 1, 2003. He again deployed to Iraq in September 2004 and was promoted to corporal on Oct. 1, 2004. After returning from Iraq, Johnson completed sergeants' resident and nonresident course and was promoted to sergeant on Dec. 1, 2005.

On May 29, 2006, he reported to Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program preparatory school MCRD in San Diego. After completion, he reported to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Idaho where he completed his bachelor's degree.
