Updated: 9:50 a.m. Police are searching for a 50-year-old California man with dementia who was last seen at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival at about 8 p.m. Sunday.

About 50 officials have been searching for the man since about 11 p.m. Sunday, after he wandered away from his family, Ashland Police Chief Terry Holderness said this morning.

Kevin Nay is described as 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a mustache. He was last seen wearing dark pants, a black button-up shirt with a palm tree print, socks and sandals. Nay, a Santa Barbara resident, was visiting Ashland this weekend with his parents.

Police are asking residents to check their property for Nay and to help spread the word about his disappearance.

Anyone who sees Nay is asked to call 9-1-1.

Police have no evidence of foul play or suspicious activity in the case, said Lt. Corey Falls with the Ashland Police Department.

About 25 volunteers from Jackson County Search and Rescue and 25 from Ashland Fire & Rescue's Community Emergency Response Team have been combing the hills around Lithia Park for Nay.

People have reported possibly seeing Nay near the Ashland Dog Park off Helman Street and near Safeway on Siskiyou Boulevard this morning. Rescue crews have not confirmed that Nay was actually spotted at those locations.

Nay has been known to wander off, but in the past he always carried a cell phone with him so his family could contact him, his family told police. He does not have a cell phone with him now, Lt. Falls said.

“He's not from this area and since he's been out all night, if he falls down in a wooded area or in the creek, he could be hurt,” he said. “If you see him, please call us, because we want to make sure he's all right and get him back to his family.”
