Thunderstorms carrying little moisture are likely this afternoon or tonight, especially at the southern end of Jackson County, the National Weather Service says.

It issued a "red flag" warning for much of Jackson County today, saying storminess expected to arrive this afternoon will bring with it increased danger of fires from lightning.

The warning in effect from 11 this morning to 11 tonight says thunderstorms will begin developing in the afternoon and increase toward evening. Moisture also could increase by evening, it says.

The forecast for the day is for a high near 100; clouds and gusty winds are expected to move in this afternoon, and tonight's low should be in the upper 60s, forecasters say.
