A 59-year-old Medford man who was found dead in Applegate Lake July 20 drowned, but authorities do not know how.

Boaters found Click floating face down in the water on the lake's eastern shore, opposite the Copper boat ramp, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said.

An autopsy done late last week determined that he drowned, but why he went into the water is still unclear, said sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson. His family said Click enjoyed fishing and camping, but he didn't swim.

Click's possessions were found gathered on the shore, Carlson said.

Click served in the U.S. Army and received a Bronze Star, his family said in an obituary published Sunday.

Correction: The original version of this story incorrectly said the autopsy on Click failed to determine his cause of death.
