Former Grants Pass, Ore., resident, Jane Joyce, died in Ashland, Ore., on September 12, 2010. Services will be private.
She was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 29, 1940, to William and Evelyn Joyce. Jane was an honors graduate of Saint John's University. She was a mother, sister, friend, knowledge seeker, public school teacher, travel agent, home schooling pioneer and a librarian/researcher. She founded The Learning Connection, A School Without Walls, and helped to start other private schools all over the country. She was very active at Barnstormers Little Theatre in Grants Pass, as a videographer for many wonderful productions.
Jane moved to the West Coast in 1975, and spent 29 years in Oregon. She was a free spirit and full of love for her children, grandchildren, family, friends, students, conversation, books, learning, cats, good food and candy. She was a strong and independent woman and always encouraged people to follow their passion in life. Her wish to friends and family..."Be well and joyful!"
Jane is survived by her daughter, Laura Joyce, of Ashland, Ore.; two sons, Christopher Dillon, and his wife, Brenda, of Quinebaug, Conn., and Alex Joyce, and his wife, Rachael, of Jackson Heights, N.Y.; three brothers, William Joyce, and his wife, Judith, of Swampscott, Mass., Brian Joyce, and his wife, Sylvia, of San Benito, Texas, and John Krysko, and his wife, Nancy, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
