On September 24, 2010, George William Jones of Winston, Ore., was suddenly called to his eternal home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, due to a local traffic accident. He was born August 31, 1946, in Medford, Ore., to Samuel and Evalyn Christensen Jones, of Gold Hill, Ore.

He was a third generation attendee of Handby Elementary School in Gold Hill, and graduated from Crater High School, in Central Point, in 1964. After working for local employers, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1965. He entered the Seabee division, trained to be a construction electrician at Port Hueneme, Calif., and was stationed for two years in Kemiseya, Japan, and one year in Phu Bai, South Vietnam, before being honorably discharged September 1969.

On August 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Jenny Lynch of Springfield, Ore., at St. Paul Methodist Church in Springfield. After working locally in Eugene for approximately two years, they moved to Gold Hill, where he was employed by United Parcel Service in Medford. In June 1975, they moved to Myrtle Creek, five years later moving to Winston, Ore. George worked at Roseburg Forest Products Particle Board Division for 32 years and retired January 2009, as a lead electrician. During his early years in Gold Hil,l he was a member of the local 4-H club for ten years. He was also a member of Gold Hill Methodist Church and a twenty five year member of the Gold Hill Grange. While living in Winston, he was a member of Local 2949 AFL-CIO Union, the local chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association and an active member of the Church On the Rise, Church of the Nazarene on Diamond Lake Blvd. He was a sitting member of the church board and served for 16 years on the Electrical Apprentice Board through Umpqua Community College.

George was proceeded in death by paternal grandparents, Curtis William and Hattie King Jones Chaffee, of California; maternal grandparents, Soren and Ruby Marie Ellis Christensen, of Gold Hill, Ore.; father, Samuel Thomas Jones; aunt, Beverly Christensen, of Washburn; uncle, Lee Edward Johnson, of Central Point; and in-laws, Dan and Doris Jeffers Lynch, of Springfield, Ore. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jenny; daughter, Lea Ann Jones Munyon and husband, R. Doug Munyon, of San Diego, Calif.; son, Kevin William Jones and wife, Stacy, of Rising Sun, Md.; grandchildren, Paula, Rodney and Kenneth Munyon, of San Diego Calif.; Christian Soren and Margaret Claire Jones, of Rising Sun, Md.; mother, Evalyn Christensen Jones Kile and stepfather, George Kile, of Rogue River; sister, Marie Jones Hardaway and husband, James Hardaway, of Gold Hill; nephews, Darrell and wife, Charlotte Hardaway, of Washington; and Scott and Sherri Hardaway and family, of Oregon; as well as numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and his beloved toy poodles, Delilah and Zach.

A private family interment will be held in Rogue River, Ore. A public celebration of George's life will be held at Church On The Rise, 3500 N. Umpqua Highway Roseburg, OR, on Sunday, October 3, 2010, 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in George's name be sent to the church. Money will be divided between Camp Kellogg in Oakland, Ore., where George volunteered, and Sun Valley Indian School, in Arizona, where he did a work witness mission trip.
