Frances Roberta Young Watson, 96, of Grants Pass, Ore., passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Oak Lane Retirement Community. Frances was born on March 21, 1914, in Glen Elder, Kans., to Herman and Alice Gertrude Young.

In 1932, Frances graduated from Glen Elder High School and attended business school for two years. She then worked in a real estate office in Beloit, Kans., for 10 years. In 1944, she moved to Glendale, Calif. On December 22, 1945, she married Cecil Everett Watson, they moved to Medford, Ore., he passed away on August 1, 1972.

Frances worked at Harry and David from 1958, until her retirement in 1976. At that time, she moved back to Beloit, Kans., for three years. In 1981, she returned to Oregon and lived in Cave Junction until moving to Grants Pass in 1998. She was a member of the Community Bible Church in Cave Junction, where she volunteered with the youth group on Wednesday nights. Frances also volunteered with the Community Christian Academy by washing dishes, gardening and bookkeeping. She enjoyed memorizing and reciting poetry, and reading, especially the Bible.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Watson Reynolds, of Berkeley, Calif., and Mary Orton, of Cave Junction, Ore.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Kirk; and a grandson, Michael Dempsey.
