Deli Down topped its competition for the sixth year running.

"It's a great note to leave on," says co-owner Dan La Fond.

The basement establishment at 406 E. Main St., Medford, changes hands this month but will continue to serve sandwiches, soups, salads and pasta dishes from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. New owner Bruce Brown plans to expand hours into evenings and link the deli to a patio abutting his Shenanigan's Irish Pub, La Fond says.

La Fond founded and operated Deli Down for 25 years with brother Andy La Fond. The duo provided Britt performers' meals for a decade and often donated lunches to youth groups, churches and fundraising causes.

"We got our name out there in the community," says Dan La Fond, explaining that "getting to know the people and putting out good food at a good value" is key to the business' success.
