INDEPENDENCE — The Illinois Valley football team couldn't contain the high-powered offense of second-ranked Santiam Christian in Friday's Class 3A quarterfinal state playoff game.

The Eagles raced to a 42-0 halftime lead and eliminated the Cougars 56-22 at Central High School.

The Cougars' Roger Hults accounted for two second half touchdowns — one rushing and the other was on an 8-yard pass to Curtis Paulson. Hults threw for 139 yards and ran for another 49.

Fred Hults hauled in eight passes for 78 yards and also ran in a touchdown from eight yards out in the fourth quarter for the Cougars (7-5).

Brycen Stutzman scored five touchdowns in the first half for the Eagles.

Santiam Christian will play in next week's semifinals against the winner of today's Cascade Christian-Sheridan matchup at Spiegelberg Stadium.

SHELDON 42, CANBY 34 — At Eugene, quarterback Dillon Miller tossed three second-half touchdown passes and the Sheldon defense needed a final stop to preserve the second-round playoff victory.

Canby (5-5) had a fourth-and-five at the Sheldon 8 when quarterback Evan Sanders threw an incomplete pass with 24 seconds left in the game.

Miller finished with 302 yards passing and Connor Strahm had two running touchdowns and one receiving for the Southwest Conference champion Irish.

In next week's quarterfinals, No. 1-ranked Sheldon (11-0) plays Lake Oswego, a 34-19 winner over Tigard.

ROSEBURG 12, WEST LINN 7 — At Roseburg, Micah Audiss accounted for both Roseburg touchdowns and the defense did the rest as the Indians advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 6A state playoffs for the first time since 1998.

The Indians (10-1) will take on Aloha in Portland next week.

Audiss scored on a 13-yard run to put the Indians up 6-0 in the first quarter and followed with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Chris Shoffner in the second quarter.

On West Linn's only successful drive, Christian Wilson found the end zone on a 10-yard run, cutting the lead to 12-7. The Lions' offense was limited to just 107 total yards in the contest.

Audiss threw for 83 yards and rushed for 58 on 14 carries. Ben Goirigolzarri led Roseburg with 59 yards on the ground on 15 carries.
