Mark Grandstaff, 55, lost his lifelong battle with his demons and died Monday, November 15, 2010, in Medford, Ore. Mark was born in Hartford, Conn., on November 2, 1955, to Ken and Carol Foley Grandstaff, the second of three children and their only son.

Mark grew up in Sylmar, Calif., and joined the Air Force after graduating from Sylmar High School. He moved to Oregon after his discharge from the service, eventually settling in Medford. As a child Mark was introspective and artistic, with a soft demeanor and a quiet kindness. As an adult he was a loving and devoted friend.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sisters and their spouses, Carlotta Grandstaff and Dennis McIntyre, of Hamilton, Mont., and Lisa and Chris Bail, of San Jose, Calif.; he also is survived by his dear friend and loving half-brother, Allan Weatherford, of Medford, Ore., who was with him at the end.

Mark was buried at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, in Eagle Point, Ore. In lieu of cards and flowers, please treat one another with kindness and compassion in his memory. Mark will be as deeply missed in the future as he was in the past.
