ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon women's basketball team made a living at the free throw line and scored a 75-65 victory over Menlo Saturday at McNeal Pavilion.

Southern Oregon (4-4) hosts William Jessup at 6 p.m. Monday. Menlo dropped to 4-4 on the year.

Alexi Smith led SOU with 14 points, while Josi McDermott added 10 points.

As a team, the Raiders shot 73 percent from the free throw line (30 of 41), while the Oaks made 58 percent of their free throws (18 of 31).

Menlo cut the SOU lead to 62-60 with 5:08 to play in the second half, but free throws by Krystal Smith and Nicole Mowbray and jumpers by Nalani Barnes and Mowbray quickly gave the Raiders a 68-60 lead.

Smith and Mowbray scored back-to-back buckets to push the lead to 10 at 72-62 and Mowbray iced the game with a free throw with 1:40 to play for a 73-62 advantage.

Monique Ayers-Calvello led Menlo with 19 points and 18 rebounds.

Men's Basketball

FRESNO PACIFIC 57, SOUTHERN OREGON 56 — At Ashland, Southern Oregon freshman Kyle Tedder went for 23 points as the Raiders nearly upset NAIA Division I Fresno Pacific before falling in the finale of the annual Flagship Inn Invitational at McNeal Pavilion.

The setback snaps a five-game winning streak for the Raiders (6-2). Fresno Pacific (5-2) is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division I Top 25 poll.

Tedder continues to impressive during his rookie campaign. The Marshfield High product made seven 3-pointers to finish with 23 points.

Jordan Wild led the Sunbirds with 16 points.

After shooting nearly 52 percent in the first half, the Raiders struggled offensively in the second half as a 38-29 halftime was trimmed down to a one-point lead at 44-43 with just under 11:00 to play.

A quick run highlighted by another Tedder 3-pointer pushed the SOU advantage to 51-43, but Fresno quickly cut it down to one again at 51-50 on a layup by Kendall Holmes.

Tedder buried his seventh 3-pointer of the game to give SOU a 54-50 lead.

The Sunbirds came right back with a layup by Matt Christman to cut the lead to 54-52. Three free throws by Wild put Fresno up 55-54 with 2:16 to play.

Fresno pushed the lead to 57-54 before a pair of Sam Osofsky free throws trimmed it to 57-56 and the Raiders missed a 3-pointer with time running out.

Jordan Highland finished with seven points for the Raiders, while Drew Herrera had six rebounds to go with four assists.

SOU travels to Concordia next Friday to open Cascade Conference play.
