Donald Cattanach, 76, of Elgin, Ore., passed away Friday, November 19, 2010, at his home. At his request there will be no public service.
Don was born April 17, 1934, the son of William and Pearl (Bennett) Cattanach in Shady Cove, Ore. After high school, he earned his bachelor's and master's degree from Southern Oregon University. He taught fourth grade through eighth grade during his career, and was a coach, athletic
director, and principal. Don started his teaching career in the Rogue Valley, and continued in Dallas, Ore. He was also a rancher, and raised and showed registered Hereford cattle in addition to running a commercial hog operation. The family was chosen Polk County Livestock Family of the Year in 1988. Don was a member of the Elks Lodge in
Independence, Ore. He and his wife, Lois, moved to Elgin in 1997, where they opened Grandma's Attic Antiques.
Don is survived by his wife, Lois, of Elgin, Ore.; children, Elaine Krieger, of McMinnville, Ore., D'Ann Kirkland, of
Tacoma, Wash., Noveline Johnson, of Rolling Hills, Wyo., Deena Cattanach, of Medford, Ore., Frank Crouch, of Elgin, Ore., Duane Cattanach, of Eagle Point, Ore., Lucy Hop, of Gold Hill, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as a sister, Lois Brewer, of Anchorage, Alaska; two nieces; and a nephew.
