Greystone Court's annual food drive for ACCESS Inc. kicks off today.

Food collection at the elaborately decorated cul de sac in east Medford will run 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. today through Friday, Dec. 24.

Through the week activities, such as free cups of hot chocolate and local choirs singing Christmas carols, are planned.

Residents expect more than 4,000 cars to visit the light displays and share in the holiday spirit. Last year, $21,767 and 10,910 pounds of food was collected there to help provide more than 163,000 meals for hungry people in Jackson County.

Locally, ACCESS provides food for roughly 3,200 families each month and that number continues to rise, increasing 8 percent this fiscal year over the previous one, officials said.

Protein-rich foods, including peanut butter, canned tuna, canned meat and beans, are needed. However, donations of any non-perishable food items such as rice, pasta, cold and hot cereals are accepted.
