The First Congregational United Church of Christ plans a Children's Christmas Eve Service at 5:30 p.m. today, Dec. 24, in which children are invited to participate in the telling of the Christmas story. Center for Spiritual Living will offer a Candlelight Christmas Eve service with the Rev. Jim Hatton at 7 p.m. today, Dec. 24, at 1119 Ellen Ave., Medford. There will music, readings, meditation, singing of carols and candlelight.

At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, drummers are invited to bring their instruments and participate in a free "Drumming Celebration" led by guest musician and drum leader Bridget Wolf. The celebration will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., following the Sunday Service. All levels of experience are welcome and beginners are especially encouraged.

"Havurah Women Illuminate the Darkness with Story and Song" is planned at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, at the Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland.

The concert will feature Rabbi Sue Morningstar, Rabbi Sarah Etz Alon, storyteller Devorah Zaslow, Laura Berman Benelli of 4 Stories High, Cyrise Beaty Schachter, artistic director of the Rogue World Ensemble, singer Andrea Shupack and chantress Mia Shoshana Cohen. The Unitarian Universalists will hold a burning bowl ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 26, to free the negative aspects of the past year and embrace the coming year with renewed energy. The Rev. Leslie Becknell Marx will lead the service at 10:30 a.m. at the Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland, and again at 4 p.m. at the Red Cross Auditorium, 60 Hawthorne St., Medford.

The first part of the ceremony will involve reflection upon the challenges, changes, regrets and joys from the past year, followed by an experience of "letting go" via the burning bowl. The second part of the ceremony will focus on the Phoenix process of being reborn into a new life of opportunities, resolve and hope for the year to come.
