A wood manufacturing company is relocating to Grants Pass from Hayfork, Calif., and will hire about 15 local workers.

Jefferson State Forest Products, owned by Portland-based Upstream 21, will operate at the same location as Roguewood Furniture, formerly Bentwood Furniture, an Upstream 21 subsidiary, at 310 N.W. Morgan Lane in Grants Pass. The businesses will operate independently.

The relocation process is expected to begin immediately and be complete by April or sooner, Upstream 21 Chief Executive Officer Bryan Redd said in a phone interview.

Jefferson State Forest Products manufactures a variety of wood products, including produce bins and store displays.

Jefferson State Forest Products may qualify for financial incentives up to $50,000 from Business Oregon's Building Opportunities for Oregon Small Business Today — or BOOST — program if the jobs are filled by people who have been unemployed for at least 60 days and the average wage is at least 85 percent of similar industry wages in the area.

In addition, the company will be located in the Grants Pass Rogue Enterprise Zone, which provides property tax reductions for new capital investments within the zone when employment rises by at least 10 percent.

Jefferson State Forest Products has also applied for the Oregon Investment Advantage program, which could qualify the company for 10 years of corporate income tax exemption on profits earned above the corporate minimum tax.
