Santa might want to prepare for a bumpy flight: This Christmas is going to be a windy one in the Rogue Valley.

The National Weather Service in Medford issued a wind advisory that's in effect from 10 this morning to 10 Christmas morning.

Gusty wind that arrived in the area early today will increase through the morning, forecasters say, and hang around through late Saturday morning.

Winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts of as much as 50 mph, are forecast throughout the area.

Gusts of as much as 55 mph have been recorded already today at Mount Ashland, which is open until 4 p.m. for skiing and snowboarding. The Ariel chairlift is closed because of the wind.

Residents can expect highs in the high 50s today in Medford. Temperatures will be slightly cooler Saturday, when rain is in the forecast.

Forecasters say the wind could make traveling tricky, especially for drivers of tall vehicles.
