The Eagles (5-5) made four 3-point baskets in a 27-point first quarter, eight in the first half and 11 for the game.

"Teams have been doing that to us a lot," said coach Brian Winter of Eagle Point, which has allowed 10 or more treys three times. "We got off to a really good start. That was kind of the key."

The Eagles, which got 20 points each from Logan Winter and Tyrone Holmes, led 27-14 after one quarter and 45-28 at halftime.

"In the second half, we were able to get the ball inside a little more and open the game up for Tyrone in the post," said Brian Winter.

Jonathan Bolston and Garrett Snow each made four 3-pointers, finishing with 16 and 12 points, respectively, and Winter had 10 rebounds and Holmes six.

Freshman point guard Cesar Chavez had seven assists for EP.

"He distributes the ball fairly well and just played fantastic defense for us tonight," said Winter.

Sophomore Cody Dismukes paced Crater with 18 points to go with four rebounds and four assists. Another sophomore, R.J. Morgan, had 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and freshman Tanner Jaasko scored 10.

The Comets are 3-6.

Ashland (4-5), which suffered its third straight defeat, was led by junior guards Billy Hansen (15 points) and Jake McCoy (12 points).

The Grizzlies play Marist at 9:45 a.m. today in the seventh-eighth-place game.

Normally a defensive specialist, Smith, a senior guard, scored a career-high 19 points. Eric Morse added 16 points and 13 rebounds — seven offensive — for the Challengers (4-4). Addison Smith scored 13 and had seven rebounds, and Davis Siliga had 12 points and six assists.

Cascade Christian plays Western Mennonite at 7:30 tonight.
