John Henry Kendle
April 12, 1926 - January 18, 2011
John Kendle, 84, of Medford, Ore., passed away at home Tuesday, January 18, 2011. He was born April 12, 1926, in Scio, Ore., to Claude and Rose (Zemlicka) Kendle. He attended Scio Schools.
At age 17, he began his own log trucking business by purchasing a truck from his father and attending Business School at Chemeketa Community College at night. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines, served aboard the U.S.S. Fort Royal, and was honorably discharged after WWII. He then re-entered the log trucking business.
On April 12, 1948, he married Patricia Parrish. She was born January 23, 1925, in Jefferson, Ore., to Jesse E. and Josephine (Neal) Parrish. She passed away April 30, 2001.
In 1957, John moved his family to Medford from the Willamette Valley. For the next 43 years, his business grew from a one truck owner/operator to a small fleet operation hauling logs from Oregon and northern California to area mills. In the winter months, he enjoyed rebuilding and refurbishing equipment in his own truck shop.
He also enjoyed gardening and especially working with his German Shepherd dogs.
Surviving is brother, Richard, of Gladstone, Ore.; sons, Jeffery, of Medford, and James, of Portland; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; infant daughter; and sister, Evelyn Borman, of Lebanon, Ore.
We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to Providence Hospice.
A memorial graveside service for family and friends, who wish to attend, will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.
