The MDU Resources Foundation has awarded $1,500 scholarships to 30 children of MDU Resources Group Inc. employees and one of the recipients is from the Rogue Valley.

From Gold Hill, the winner was Katelin Alford, daughter of Knife River Corp. employee Arnold Alford.

Since 1987, the foundation has awarded more than $512,000 to 420 students. The foundation sets the program criteria and funds the scholarship, but hires Scholarship America to perform the selection process. Recipients were chosen based on academic excellence, including class rank, test scores and grade-point average. Other determining factors included work experience, participation in school and community activities, and the student's written statement of career goals.
