EAGLE POINT — The Eagle Point and North Medford wrestling teams battled to a 31-31 tie, but a coaching infraction gave the Eagles the win during Wednesday's dual at Eagle Point High.

North Medford was tagged with a one-point deduction in its team score after head coach Nolan Harris received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during the third match of the night when he left his chair and approached the mat. Eagle Point's Nathan Lucas pinned Colby Deskins in 5:45 in the 130-pound bout.

"In the heat of the battle, I was just trying to stick up for my kid," Harris said. "I should have stayed more collected."

The misconduct was the first criterion examined as a tiebreaker, giving the Eagles the nod. Without the penalty, the Black Tornado would have won the match 32-31.

Eagle Point trailed by nine points with two matches remaining, but a pin by Orlando De La Cruz (103) with 28 seconds left and a victory at 112 by Aaron Lorenz allowed the Eagles to square up the dual.

Eagle Point's Manny Valdovinos topped Marlon Campos, 4-3, in the heavyweight match, and Gage Baumer (171) pinned Jesse Hornbrook in 5:48 to pace the Eagles.

North's Chris McFall, who moved up from 112 pounds to 119, won by decision over Eddy Perez, 9-2. In his first varsity match, Dakota Greenwade (152) pinned Caleb Ash in 1:40.

"They definitely did a good job against us and we had some kids that were leading matches and got pinned," Eagle Point head coach Kacey McNulty said. "I'm a little frustrated, some of our kids wrestled well and some didn't perform up to where they needed to."
