Wendell Anthony Merck, Sr., 80, passed away on January 20, 2011. He was born
September 10, 1930, in Campwood, Texas. He was a resident of Trail, Ore., since 1970, where he built his home and raised his family.
He enjoyed country western music, golf, poker, barbecues, family gatherings and travelling to Arizona for the winters. He was a dedicated husband and father, working as a long-haul trucker for over 20 years, and for several years as a commercial fisherman out of Brookings and Charleston, Ore. on his boat, "Naomi."
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nadine Merck; his son, Wendell Anthony Merck, Jr. (Tony); daughters, Christine Evison, Frances Jermain, Ruth Colley and Sandra Vessels. He was known as `Grandpa', `Gramps', `Papa', and `Poppy' to 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandhildren.
His memorial service was held at Trail Christian Fellowship, in a room filled with family and friends. All shared the same story of a man that had the love and respect of friends and family, a good sense of humor and was unselfish, kind, and generous. Wendell was known by many and loved by all.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
