Dixie Lee Helms

Dixie Lee Helms, 79, of Phoenix, Ore., passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, at her residence. She was born March 9, 1932, in Cameron, Mo., to Samuel and Ruby (Cousins) Long. She married Bernie Helms on November 3, 1953. For many years she worked as playground supervisor at Phoenix-Talent schools and was known as Grandma Dixie. She also had worked as a grocery store clerk and homemaker.

She was a member of the Good Sam's Club and enjoyed camping, knitting, crossword puzzles, reading and her grandkids.

Survivors include her sons, Allen and Patrick; daughters, JoAnn (Leopaldo), Denise, Mollie (Mike), Connie (Jesus) and Debbie (Joan); 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grand and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernie; son, George; and grandson, DeShawn.

The funeral service for Dixie Lee Helms will be held Friday, March 25, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
