An Eagle Point teen celebrating spring break with friends died Wednesday in a pickup crash just west of Applegate Lake.

Andrew C. Roberts, 18, was riding in the back of a Toyota Tacoma when the driver lost control of the pickup and it left Carberry Creek Road and rolled, according to Jackson County sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson.

The driver, Brandon D. Hollingsworth, 19, of Central Point, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, which happened near the intersection of Carberry Creek and Upper Applegate roads.

Roberts was riding in the pickup's bed with Nicholas J. Madtson, 17, of Eagle Point.

Madtson was transported to a local hospital by Mercy Flights helicopter and is being treated for his injuries.

Jackson County road crews were working in the area at the time of the crash and were able to provide first aid for the boys.

Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the crash is continuing, Carlson said.

The boys were camping in the Carberry Creek area in celebration of spring break. They were driving to get more firewood when the crash occurred.
