Betty passed away peacefully from natural causes on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Born in Leavenworth, Kans., on May 8, 1927, she was chosen by Thomas and Mabel Brashay to be their daughter to raise and love.

She was a wonderful mother to her three daughters and involved in every aspect of their lives. She worked outside the home, part time while the girls were young and full time as they got older, mostly in the medical field. Betty was an active life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, serving as historian and patriotic instructor. She was a strong supporter of US soldiers. She loved to travel in the United States and many parts of the world. She loved boating, fishing, trailer camping, tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She truly loved animals of all kinds. Her silver miniature poodle was her much loved companion.

Many years ago her birth family in Missouri was discovered which consisted of three sisters and one brother and many nieces and nephews. She has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with them visiting their homes in Missouri and having them visit in California.

Upon her passing she left behind three daughters, Jan (Bob) Rix, Leslie (Tom) Brady and Kimberlee (Carl) Gondolf; three granddaughters, Deborah (Rick) Day, Elizabeth (Ryan) Hodgson, and Allison (Shawn) Lawrence; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Bobby, Natalie, Jack and Zachary; and three sisters, Bonnie Collier, Wanda Schondelmeyer, and Lorena (Tommy) Hess. Her brother, Howard Mizer died in 2007.

Per her request, there will be no services. Donations to the VFW Auxiliary would please her: VFW Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Agnes Perkins, 3660 Walnut Blvd. #52, Brentwood, CA 94513.

She was loved every day of her life and will be missed for the rest of our lives.

Her daughters express their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Lone Tree Convalescent Hospital in Antioch, Calif.
