A Central Point man was arrested Tuesday for reportedly robbing a man at knifepoint over the weekend at the Jackson County Fairgrounds & Exposition Park.

Jackson County sheriff's deputies were summoned to the fairgrounds Saturday evening after a man reported that he was threatened by a knife-wielding suspect and beaten.

The victim told police that a man, later identified as Roman Dean Salazar, 21, threatened him with a knife and stole money from him. The two were in a car together when the incident began.

A brief struggle ensued, leaving the victim with minor injuries and ripped clothes. The injuries did not require medical attention, sheriff's officials said.

Salazar fled the scene in a car, leaving the victim to walk to the Family Fun Center to call for help.

Salazar was arrested on charges of first-degree robbery, fourth-degree assault and menacing.

The robbery charge is a Measure 11 crime that carries a mandatory seven years, six months prison sentence upon conviction.

A third person inside the car at the time of the alleged robbery was not charged with a crime.
