Track and Field

The North Medford senior broke North Medford's longest-standing track and field record when he emerged victorious in a star-studded 800-meter field at the Crater Rotary Classic.

Smith's time of 1 minute, 55.10 seconds was the state's best at the time by more than two seconds and erased the school record of 1:55.8 by Andy Kelm in 1989.

Smith has since gone faster, running 1:54.19 in the Oregon Relays last weekend. The mark is the best in Class 6A and No. 3 overall in the state.
